PUG'S HUNT

A retro-style browser shooting game controlled by your webcam. Point your finger to aim, pinch to shoot. No controller needed.

What Is Pug's Hunt?

Pug's Hunt is a webcam shooting game that runs entirely in your browser. Inspired by retro arcade shooters, it replaces every button and mouse click with real-time AI hand tracking. Your hands become the controller.

Point your index finger at the screen to move the crosshair, then pinch your thumb and finger together to fire. It's a duck hunt–style game reimagined with computer vision: no download, no app, no hardware beyond the webcam you already have.

Features

AI Hand Tracking

Powered by MediaPipe, the game detects your hand landmarks in real time. Point your index finger to aim and pinch to shoot. Works with any built-in or USB webcam.

Daily Leaderboard

Every day resets the board. Compete for the top score in this hand tracking browser game, then come back tomorrow for another shot at the crown.

Retro Browser Game

Classic arcade shooting game aesthetic with a modern twist. Runs directly in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. No install needed.

How the Hand Tracking Works

Pug's Hunt uses MediaPipe, Google's open-source hand landmark detection model. It runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly, so no data leaves your device.

  • Aim: raise your dominant hand and extend your index finger. The crosshair follows your fingertip.
  • Shoot: pinch your thumb and index finger together with your other hand to fire.
  • Privacy safe: the camera feed never leaves your machine. All processing happens locally.

Tribute to Rambo

Rambo the pug

Rambo was my pug. He had a strong personality, a serious bark, and a habit of reacting to every bird that entered the garden.

Some of the sounds in Pug's Hunt are based on real recordings of him. His barks were lightly edited and mixed into the retro arcade style of the game.

This project started as a technical experiment with webcam hand tracking. It quietly became a small tribute to him.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to download anything?

No. Pug's Hunt is a fully browser-based shooting game. Open the page, grant camera permission, and play instantly.

Is my webcam footage recorded or sent anywhere?

Never. All hand tracking runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly. Your camera feed is never uploaded to any server.

What if I don't have a webcam?

You can still play using your mouse. Move to aim and click to shoot. Hand tracking is optional.

Which browsers are supported?

Any modern browser works: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Chrome gives the best hand tracking performance.
